Do you take medication that could react badly with other medications? Do you suffer from a chronic medical condition? How can you communicate important information like this to the emergency medical team if you are in an accident?

At Baker Retirement & Wealth Management, PC, we take every aspect of our clients’ lives into consideration. In this post, we’ll share how keeping emergency contact information handy can be useful in certain situations. We’ll also discuss what we’re doing to help clients achieve this goal.

Keep Emergency Contact Information Handy

The Baker team has begun providing ICE (in case of emergency) keys to many of our clients. These keys help make important health information easy to find in the event of an emergency. The ICE key is a USB drive that is shaped like a traditional key. It is marked with the international emergency medical symbol, the star of life, for easy identification.

Add the ICE key to your key ring in case of an emergency. You can choose which information you’d like to include on the drive. You may decide to include:

  • your personal contact information
  • your primary physician
  • your emergency contacts
  • any medications you are taking
  • living will
  • health care representative information
  • important documents that you’d like first responders to have access to

Why Health Information Accessibility is Important

Due to health care privacy guidelines, there are a lot of regulations within the industry. If someone is under medical care, the facility has to follow regulations about who they can speak to about the patient. You must have the necessary documents in order to talk to anyone within a doctor’s office or hospital about another individual’s care.

You can include information regarding patient communication on your ICE key. If you want your child or your parent or another trusted individual to be able to speak to your physician in the case of an emergency, this tool can be used to provide that information when you can’t necessarily provide it yourself.

Get Your ICE Key Today

Planning ahead can help make an emergency situation much less stressful for everyone involved. Baker clients are invited to stop by the office in Evansville, Newburgh, Owensville, or Boonville during regular business hours to learn more about obtaining an ICE key.
